Five Fab Friday Faves!

Hi everyone!

It has literally been forever since I have posted! I even came up with some good posts and then never ended up putting them up! Shame on me! But here I am, and I am back! I promise I will be more regular from now on…quick life update: made good grades, love my job, moving back to Texas in 3 weeks for another job, having an overall great summer.

So here we are for 5 Fab Friday Faves! (Not my original idea, but everyone else does it and it’s SO cute!) These are my current obsessions!

Mio Liquid Water Enhancer-I am sure you have seen the commercials for this, and they’re kind of catchy. It is like a dropper bottle of flavor to put in water! I am trying to drink more water lately, and this helps change things up some. I bought the mango-peach, peach tee and strawberry-watermelon. They cost like $3 at any grocery store, have a locking cap and are easily transportable in your purse! Follow them on Facebook and you can print off a coupon!

Pure Barre Technique classes-This is a ballet/pilates/grand jete workout class I have been doing. It is SO hard and really works every muscle in the body! The first few classes I just felt like I was going to collapse, but the more I did it and stronger I got, the easier it was. Every class is still challenging, but you can see muscle definition results quickly and you feel great! Check one out in your area if they have it! They are running a new member special, where you can get a whole month unlimited for $100, and compared to the $23/class price, thats an awesome deal!

Wet & Wild Mega Glo bronzing powder-I love bronzer. And I spend a ton of money on it. But I hate putting on expensive makeup to go to the pool and float the river, so I dipped into CVS to pick up a cheap bronzer, and now I love it! It covers so well, doesn’t look too shiny and stays on all day. For $3.50, it was a total steal and might be incorporated into my every day make-up routine soon!

Tilapia and nectarines-My current food loves! It is totally random too. There is this restaurant in Homewood, Al called Pinches and they make this delicious fish sandwich, so I figured I could make it myself! Breaded some fresh tilapia fillets, pan seared in some canola oil, put on a piece of toasted bread and viola…there it is! I also am on a nectarine kick, which I bought because they looked SO pretty at Publix.

Lilly Pulitzer accessories-I always love Lilly but I am OBSESSED with my new phone case! I don’t love prints on my phone, because sometimes I fear it looks unprofessional, but once I put my new case on I didn’t even care! And sure enough, everyone thinks it’s totally cute. It has personality and I just love it! Thanks to the Pink Door in Memphis, TX for that one!

So there you have it everyone, my Friday Favorites for this week! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend, and I’ll definitely be back tomorrow!

Feeling Alive!

Happy Wednesday! Or hump day, to those who like to use that terminology. Personally, I hate it. It doesn’t give a dirty connotation to me or anything, I actually have only started hating it since moving to Alabama. Here in ‘Bama (as the locals calls it), we have speed humps. Now…what in GOD’s name is a speed hump? That would be the Alabama version of a speed bump. Why they call it that, I am sure there is a great story, but I just don’t know it yet. Should I ever find out, you’ll be the first to know.

I completed registration for the triathlon here in Birmingham today! Way to wait until the last minute…did I mention this race is on Monday? Like, this Monday. You only live once, right? Memorial Day tris are becoming a tradition for me, and have a significance believe it or not. Last year, I did CapTex tri with Fit Chick Britt, and it was on the 9 month anniversary of having my brain tumor removed.

So this Memorial Day is the 18 month anniversary! That means 18 months healthy and still kickin’ over here! The tri originally was kind of a bucket list thing for me, and I guess it still is. Shows me not only am I alive, but I’m doing pretty darn well and really living my life to the fullest. Next Memorial Day in Texas again!

But now that I’m registered, that means I have spent the past 2 weeks in crunch time to get ready! It’s a sprint, so I think I can handle it. The registration process had me estimate my finishing time…and I think I did a very bad job. How am I supposed to be able to do that? I’m not a timer when I bike or anything. Note to self, start that because I might have told them double the time it will actually take me…hopefully.

So back to the whole, I don’t LOVE running thing from the other day. The one thing that makes me really enjoy running (and at the same time makes running in a triathlon such a pain) is music! I always have my iPod of iPhone with me when I am running to jam to some tunes. I am a country fan for the most part, but when I am running, I like to have songs on with a good fast beat so I run to keep up with it. It tends to make me faster, and if I really like the songs, it makes time pass very quickly! I busted out my old iPod last night and listened to a playlist that came from my college volleyball warm-up CD. Check these throw-backs out…

David Banner-Get Like Me
FloRida-In the Ayer
Lil Wayne-Got Money (remix)
Pussycat Dolls-When I Grow Up
Linkin Park-Away from You
Dem Franchise Boys/Korn-Coming Undone with It
Remy Ma-Conceited
Mims-Like This
3 Doors Down-Ticket to Heaven
Timbaland-She Got It
Brittney Spears-Overprotected

SWEEEEEET playlist huh? Brought me back to college definitely. Liked it so much I’m going to use it again tomorrow haha I can’t use an iPod during the race, so I am winging it there.

Tonight was softball night for the firm. I was all excited because I got new Nike shorts to match my uniform and it was the first time I was going to wear them! Ok, ridiculous I know, but first of all I really like matching, and second of all, I am always looking for an excuse to get new Nike shorts! Baby blue, white and navy is totally cute, and matches my jersey perfectly! I probably look better than I play, but that’s what matters right? I play catcher and am absolutely not the star of the team. But the rules state a girl has to be on the field at all times, and they usually hit the ball so I don’t have to do too much. Regardless, it’s a really fun time!

We won tonight, again! So far, CWCD is undefeated for the season…going all the way baby! After the game, we had an awesome dinner at Outakes in Homewood, AL. The chicken tettrazini was just to die for The owner was so nice and packed me a to-go container for lunch tomorrow! If you’re in the area, definitely check it out for lunch.

After a long day or work and play, I’m catching a quick episode of Criminal Minds while ironing my shirt for tomm, and hopefully not scaring the daylights out of myself so that I can sleep! Goodnight!

Hump day, Schlump Day

Wednesday is hump day for most of the nation traditionally. But for me, Wednesday definitely isn’t halfway “over the hump” for me, considering the long weekend ahead. We have Big South this weekend and that makes the end of the week difficult to get through, knowing I don’t have a weekend! BUT, it’s worth it for the girls. Anyone have anything cool going in this weekend? Or even better, will you be at Big South??

Speaking of them, I made them new bows today! Surprise surprise, I love bows! I love finding ribbon that is double sided, so that it’s all color. I hate seeing the white side of ribbon, it’s so boring. With these in their hair, you won’t be able to miss my team!

So that’s what I spend part of my night doing between reading, eating dinner and packing. I did finally go grocery shopping, aren’t you proud? This trip was only for a few essentials since I’ll be gone all weekend. Just wait until Monday, I’ll be hitting the store hard! I haven’t been in a huge meal mood lately and find myself snacking more. Exhibit A: breakfast, sausage and cheese breakfast sliders.

Exhibit B: dinner. If you can even call it that.

I like Greek yogurt a lot, an fun fact, Chobani is really hard to find at the grocery stores near me. Thanks Alabama. Next week I will trek to Whole Foods and stock up. I have a weird cantaloupe craving as well, but if I buy a whole one, I’m going to have to buy a big knife to cut it with too.

So for a Wednesday, it was pretty chill. It thunderstormed all day, which meant I had a heinous hair day and ended up in a headband by my second class. Cute huh?

After sending emails and getting ljne-ups organized for BOTH the teams I am coaching this weekend (yes both, I’m filling in for our 14-2 coach on Friday), I updated my iPhone tonight, since it was running slow. If you’re an iPhone user, there’s a new software update you should do, it works wonders. While I was updating, I browsed around the app store for a while too!

FAVE APP: Dude Perfect! You might recognize the name from the YouTube sensation that swept the ratings last year, but now there is an application to go with it! If you’re not familiar with Dude Perfect, it is a crazy stunt basketball shooting segment that was created by two great guys I attended high school with. Download their new app and give it a try, I’m enjoying playing it in my free time! Also, I got an app entitled Volleyball, that is a volleyball rally juggling game. It’s a sports day for apps today!

I’ve got to wake up in the morning and turn in my schedule for next semester, but I’m thinking I will finish this episode of Hoarders: Buried Alive first. Such a great show, really encourages to clean my place. I’ve watched an episode already tonight, and busted out the Clorox wipes about 15 minutes in.
Have any favorite shows like that?

Hope everyone had a lovely hump day! 😉

Meanwhile, back in Birmingham…

So I am back in Birmingham for the duration of my spring break. Break has been a complete whirlwind and I am definately looking forward to some time to relax.

My best friend Melinda, her boyfriend Sam and his brother Jack are in town from Texas visiting me. They headed to Auburn today to visit a friend down there, so I had the day to myself for the most part. They brought me back a cool coozie from Auburn so I can represent at school! All my AU friends will be way jealous 🙂 Thanks guys!

I had a pretty productive day to myself actually, it was nice! I started the day off finding a plce to get my taxes done. Fun fact, the nice people from AARP will do your taces for free if you make an appointment with them in your own town. Go to, and look for the tac help option. My theory on it is, why pay one of those taz services $200+ to do basic taxes, when there are nice people out there who will do it for free? Taxes, CHECK.

Then I went on a nice run. It is fabulous outside in Birmingham, so I enjoyed getting out there for a morning run. I only ran like 2 miles, because my iPod was dead and I didnt have Sarge to accompany me, so I got kind of bored. I was also lazy and didn’t feel like driving to the path along Lakeshore Drive, so I just ran in the area near my complex. When I got back, I took a shower, ate breakfast and got to work!

Laundry was on the list, and I got through 5 full loads. I think I have realized I won WAY too many t-shirts! I kind of collect them. Any time I find a really cool t-shirt, or someone pgoes to an itneresting place, I always ask them to bring me one back. (So if you ever see a cool one, holler at me…I’d love to add it to the collection!) Probably time for an intervention, but I  like them all and have issues parting with any of them. Granted, they are overflowing my drawer…

After that it was reading for class, editing my appellate brief and doing a little bit of cleaning up around the apartment before rewarding myself with a nap and some NCIS on tv. Beign that it was my first actual day where I didnt have anything to do, I was beyond pleased to spend it alone with no true agenda.

When they got back from Auburn, they requested we go out to a seafood restaurant for dinner. Although I live in Birminghan now, I dont venture out as much as I should, and didn’t really know any that were Birmingham exclusive and not a chain. So I pulled out my trusty iPhone and got to work finding a restaurant using on of my FAV APPS: WHERE!  This app is so great, because it lets you pick categories of food and tells you all the restaurants in the area near you. Once you select a restaurant, it will map it out for you, let you view the menu, and even check in via Facebook! When you don’t know exactly where to go, have no fear…theres an app for that! (I use my iPhone for so much in my life and there are so many great things you can do with it that I think I am going to start sharing my fav apps on here!)

We found Fish Market Restaurant in downtown Birmingham, and it was terrific! It has two options, sit down and line service. We chose to be seated in the restaurant and have full service, but you can also go through the coutner line to get your food, and sit at the tables on the other side of the restaurant. There is the same food for both, the only difference is the wait staff. We had great service, huge portions of food and a very reasoanble meal. ($40 for 3 people with drinks is awesome!) I would defiantely go back there and try soemthing else!

After a quick trip to Yougurt Mountain in Cahaba Village, now we’re back home watching reruns of CSI and having a glass o wine to end the night. Tomorrow is another day of spring break, so who knwos what it will bring!
