Counting it down…

Needless to say, I have NOT been diligent in my blooging for the past 3 weeks. That is completely due to law school finals being in full swing, and spending every waking moment studying or reviewing or taking an exam. Its just not really exciting to write about the same thing day in and day out.

In 24 hours, I will be done with 1L. Whew.

Heres a recap for you of the last few weeks:

I took 3 finals, and have one more tommorrow. After that, I’m done. Roll out the red carpet, popl the champagne bottles, were not 1Ls anymore baby and its summertime!

I got a cold. Who does that during finals? Oh thats right, everyone. Because this ONE girl came to the library sick and got the entire basement crew infected. I know who you are, and youre at the top of my list. After two full bottles of Theraflu in 3 days, I was so medicated I didnt know top from bottom.

I drank way too much diet coke. Dear god after finals I am taking a break from the DC and DDP for at LEAST a week.

I got a job. I will be working at a plaintiff’s firm here in Birmingham for the whole summer and am very excited about it.

My mom came to town. She was in my apartment for less than 10 munites before asking for a bottle of Clorox. The bathroom looks great, thanks Ma.

I need a haircut. For the love of all things holy I need to have my hair done. Its getting long (relative here) and looks horrible. ITs bordering on mullet. and NO, I will not post photos to embarass myself in this current fragile state.

Ok so thats it. My life really isnt that exciting right now but starting tomorrow, its a new leaf! This weekend, I am headed to the hair salon and the Memphis for a wedding with my mother to have some fun! But for now, I will spend the next 24 hours nailing Civ Pro so I can celebrate accordingly! Hope every one has had a fabbbbbulous few days 🙂

The freakin’ weekend!

Mmm Saturday. Kind of had a long Friday night with practice. Moody HS in Alabama doesn’t air condition their gym, so we left the doors open. With the fresh air came the giant mosquitos. Between shaving nicks, the bruises from my cascade down the stairs last week and the new bites, my legs are shaping up for shorts season really well! 😉

I know I should be spending the entire day studying for finals, but I promised myself this semester that I would take care of myself a little bit better. So I slept in and made breakfast.

They look more impressive than they really are. Truth truth, they’re from a box. But a box just means I know them taste good and can’t mess them up ha. Threw some strawberry Chobani on top, cut up some fresh strawberries and had a pretty great start to the day. Then I went on a run and swam some laps until the bikini clad babes at the pool shot me enough dirty looks that I left them alone to bronze in peace.

Then I studied. And read supplements. And made notecards. And made more notecards. Have I mentioned how much I love Civil Procedure? Civ Pro fact for you…a defendant is the only one who can remove a claim to federal court. So if you’re going to sue someone, make sure you put it in the right court or you’re going to get yatzeed by some $300/hour defense attorney.

You can’t study ALL day though, so I threw in a shower, a few loads of laundry and some cleaning. The laundry was starting to get out of control and take over it’s basket!

I even made dinner, trying to be nice and healthy. Little bit of pasta, half a can of cream of mushroom soup (I was out of Alfredo sauce so I made do), pesto and chilled asparagus tips with sea salt.

Top bad I went to my girlfriend Lesley’s house a few hours later and we promptly cracked open a bottle (or two…) of wine and ordered pizza. So much for healthy. I did only have one slice at least, and it was greasy and great.

We hung out at her place for the remainder of the night and got a good study break. Such a funny group of people, every time we get together, my abs hurt from laughing so much! It’s that deep laughter that everyone really needs and always makes me feel great after. I can always count on having a great time with them, my law school friends are fabulous! The puppies, Sargent and Beezle, were there too. How can these faces not make you smile?

The best part of today is that I never out my contacts in! Those of you with contacts know what why I say that with such excitement! Not that I can even feel my contacts when they’re in and they don’t bother me, but I love days without them. So I took a blind day today and never put them in! I’m sure you’re wondering how I studied without my glasses, but have no fear. I have a blind spot that I’m used to from neurosurgery last year and am only nearsighted, so I can read without my glasses or forages. It was just wonderful, my eyes felt like they were breathing all day long!

After a fun night, I’m back in bed watching Chopped on the Food Network and mentally preparing myself for tomorrow. But I have a conundrum. It IS finals time, this i know But its also the weekend before crunch time starts. Do I hole away in the library when I know I’ll be there all week, or do I take advantage of the weekend and study from home while throwing in an hour of reading at the pool to get some color? What do you think? I mean, my spray tan IS fading. Decisions decisions! Guess what I’m leaning towards…

Have groceries, will cook!

So great news! I finally went grocery shopping. It was about 2 weeks overdue, but I finally had an afternoon off. I stayed in the library for a few hours studying Property (ph joy…) and then busted out of there. It will probably be one of my last times to take an afternoon off, as finals are looming over my head and its time to really start the intense studying! But I knew it was necessary to gr4ocery shop, since I spend the month of December studying and eating Firehouse subs and  Chinese food, and felt absolutely terrible one I was done. Good grades, bad body…not a great trade off.

I really miss HEB, Krogers and Randalls back in Texas, but Publix is a good little grocery store here in Birmingham. After 2 weeks without groceries, needless to say, it was a long trip. But I think I got everything! I can’t wait that long again, I spend a fortune getting everything.

I’ve been eating a lot of junk lately, with Big South offering only $7 hot dogs for lunch and law week providing lunch at school every day. I usually bring my lunch, but really fell off the wagon in the last 2 weeks, sometimes for just sheer laziness. So I swore to myself that I would make my lunch this week. Today I made Turkey Chipolte Roll-ups.  Super easy and it look like, 10 minutes while watching Law & Order. Just get your ingredients: large whole wheat tortillas, cream cheese, laughing cow cheese wedgers in garlic herb, baby spinach, sliced cheese (motzrella or white american), sundried tomatoes and chipolte spice.

Mix the cream cheese, laughing cow garlic herb cheese and chiplte spice (add apraingly if you dont like spicy! I’m on a real chipolte kick because I like spicy in like, everything) all together and spread on the tortilla…this keeps the roll-up together when it chills. I’d love to tell you that was my knowledge, but in fact, my mother told me that while I was starting and probably saved the day.  Then stack away! I did my layers as baby spinach, cheese, double turkey, tomatoes, and baby spinach again. Then you roll them up, cover in a damp paper towel, wrap in foil and sttick in the firdge to chill. A few hours later, take them out, slice them and they are ready to eat! I was impressed, they turned out pretty good and I’m excited for lunch.

But lunch is about all I’m excited for today. This week is so jam packed with events.. Last night I had a meet-and-greet at a law firm here in Birmingham, followed by a birthday party for a friend. Today, I have 3 classes, a “Called to the Bar” seminar, oral arguments for LLR and volleyball practice. (Stay tunes for a second post about volleyball practice, as this one is getting really long!) Additionally, the paperwork needs to be filed for my job with the US Attorney’s office and thats going to take a while.  It’s also nearing finals time and I have started living in the library. It’ll all be over soon and I will be 1/3 of the way though law school…whohoo.  Ok, off to Contracts class…should be pretty exciting because someone wasn’t prepared last class and now has to sing a song about the casehe wasn’t prepared for! Check back later for the Drills of the Day and some plans for practrice ot finish out the cub volleyball season strong!
