It’s in the bag!

Purse, or suitcase? That is a question I ask myself almost every morning. A purse is a woman’s saving grace, it can carry anything and everything that she does or does not need. And we carry a purse every day, chock full of little things here or there.  I feel like through the years my purses are getting bigger and bigger too!

When I got up this morning and was changing things into a new purse, I got to thinking…”what IS all this stuff?” Fortunately, changing purses is pretty easy for me, because I have this wonderful purse sleeve thing (fron the Container Store) that everything goes in, and you just sit it down in the purse. When you have a minor purse obsession, you tend to have one to match every outfit, and changing happens a lot!  But even that little thing  is stuffed! My problem is, I really NEED everything in my purse…right? Having tons of random stuff in your purse comes in very handy at the bar when they do scavenger hunts (my team usually wins thanks to the mother load in the Michael Kors!) I always wonder about what people have in their purse, and think it is interesting what people thing they need everyday around that warrants prime real estate in their Louis Vuitton. So here is what I have today, and every day, in the big old bag of tricks! (That bag of tricks today, happens to be a Michael Kors black python skin bag with gold buckles, totally fabulous.)

What’s in your purse you can’t live without?

Back in Action…again!

Howdy ya’ll! Ok, I know I have been SO bad with blogging lately, it’s the whole summer thing, I promise. But I am going to definitely try and be more regular, now that things have calmed down. So hereeee…is another catch up entry.

I moved back to Houston! Only for like, 5 weeks, but it works for me and I was ecstatic to be hre. It took a3 days of packing (to which I managed to accumulate a ton of stuff and still forget a few things…), 10 hours of driving and an obligatory stop at the first Whataburger across the border before I made is back to the greatest city and state in the nation…Houston, Texas! And now, HERE I AM!

I started a new job. I am at a new law firm in downtown and it is just wonderful!

You think your office building is big? Check mine out.

I have finally left the wide world of plaintiff’s law and gone to the defense dark side, as some call it. I personally love it! I am working in environmental law and thin it is SO interesting. My father can be so proud…no matter all my adversity to being an engineer like him, I am still handling hazardous material and filter sludge just like him! The apple didn’t fall far from the tree there…or in our terms, the trash didn’t fall far from the landfill?

I caught up with friends! Oh, and family. Yepp, everyone’s here. Little bro is back home too working and that’s always lovely. I got to have margaritas and foroy with Fit Chick Britt and catch up on all her new life changes.

I also saw some old friends from HS, even hit up an Astros game with my superfan friend Tiff!

Tiff and I at the Houston Astros v. Pittsburgh Pirates game

My new Astros shirt turned out way cute!

We had a close call at the game actually…check this out. We went to get a hot dog during the 5th inning, after my main man Hunter Pence batted of course.

What a baseball stud!!

The first place was sold out so we walked down a bit further to get one. Well when we get back, we learned that one of the Pirates players had thrown a bat into the stands and it landed in our seats! That wouldn’t have tickled had a major league player zonked me in the head with a bat. So a hot dog saved out lives, god bless those pork/beef mixture case entrails.

I got frizzy hair.  Thanks Houston, for having the worst humidity known to man. I had been having SUCH great hair days in Birmingham and sure enough the minute I drove into town, I got big ol’ Texas hair again. 2 cans of hair spray later, I am working on controlling that so that I don’t scare people away.

So that’s where I am and what I am doing now. I promise I will have something good for you in the next few days, there is always something exciting going on here at home. Have a wonderful Monday everyone!

Waiting…and waiting…and waiting some more…

Today was NOT a happy Thursday for me, let me tell you. (I’m putting the warning out at the beginning, this is kind of a rant post.)

So today, I had a 1:00pm doctor’s appointment here in Birmingham. I work maybe 10 minutes from the doctor, so I knew I could dip out, go to the appointment, and make it back easily. During the work day, I don’t like to be gone for extended periods of time because oh, that’s right…I HAVE WORK. Anyways, I digress, back to the doctor’s appointment. So I get there the usually 20 minutes early, sign in, and sit down. And keep sitting. And come 1:00pm at my appointment time, I am still sitting. Come a ridiculous 40 minutes later, I am still sitting there. So finally, at 1:45pm, I was finally taken back by the nurse to see the doctor. And by that time, I was beyond surly. The first thing the nurse asked was “How are you doing?” I am pretty positive that she didn’t like my response, which was along the lines of “I was better 45 minutes ago when my appointment was supposed to start and now after waiting 55 minutes this appointment better be about something life threatening.” A tad rude, I am well aware, but I thought it was rude of them to keep me waiting that long. (I am well aware that two wrongs don’t make a right, but I am a little bit of a hothead, and that was very calm for my usual.)

So here’s my issue…is it acceptable for a doctor to make an appointment at a certain time and then expect you to wait on them for an excessive amount of time? I don’t think so. In my career (legal), clients cannot just be left waiting for appointments until the attorney is ready for them. In any other professional setting, appointment times are firm.  There is always lead way for someone to be a few minutes late in exigent circumstances, but 45 minutes is beyond excessive. There is a mutual respect between people that when an appointment is made, that slot is to be reserved for that person and that time is to be honored.

It is all over now, and my actual appointment was very short. But I left in a surly mood and really had my mood tainted for a few hours. Fortunately, there is nothing worth ruining an entire day over, so I am back in a good mood. Stay tuned for another post that will discuss WHAT the doctor told me, and what upcoming changes I will be making in my life because of it!

So now you know what really ticks me off! What really really bothers you?

I’m such a Daddy’s girl!

Happy Father’s Day everyone! Unfortunately, I was unable to spend the day with my Daddy today, as I live in Alabama and he is back in Texas. Usually on a Sunday, we would take our regular trip to HEB and then lay by the pool before cooking dinner for the family together. I miss him a lot and can’t wait to be home next month and spend some quality time with dear old Dad!

I know everyone says they have the best Das in the world, but I really so. Gary Horwitch, or G as I call him, is the best Daddy in the entire world! He’s so awesome, and has set a very high bar for any man in my future. Since I couldn’t be with him today, here’s some photos and memories of me and my awesome father!

Happy Father’s Day Daddy! Love you!

Five Fab Friday Faves!

Hi everyone!

It has literally been forever since I have posted! I even came up with some good posts and then never ended up putting them up! Shame on me! But here I am, and I am back! I promise I will be more regular from now on…quick life update: made good grades, love my job, moving back to Texas in 3 weeks for another job, having an overall great summer.

So here we are for 5 Fab Friday Faves! (Not my original idea, but everyone else does it and it’s SO cute!) These are my current obsessions!

Mio Liquid Water Enhancer-I am sure you have seen the commercials for this, and they’re kind of catchy. It is like a dropper bottle of flavor to put in water! I am trying to drink more water lately, and this helps change things up some. I bought the mango-peach, peach tee and strawberry-watermelon. They cost like $3 at any grocery store, have a locking cap and are easily transportable in your purse! Follow them on Facebook and you can print off a coupon!

Pure Barre Technique classes-This is a ballet/pilates/grand jete workout class I have been doing. It is SO hard and really works every muscle in the body! The first few classes I just felt like I was going to collapse, but the more I did it and stronger I got, the easier it was. Every class is still challenging, but you can see muscle definition results quickly and you feel great! Check one out in your area if they have it! They are running a new member special, where you can get a whole month unlimited for $100, and compared to the $23/class price, thats an awesome deal!

Wet & Wild Mega Glo bronzing powder-I love bronzer. And I spend a ton of money on it. But I hate putting on expensive makeup to go to the pool and float the river, so I dipped into CVS to pick up a cheap bronzer, and now I love it! It covers so well, doesn’t look too shiny and stays on all day. For $3.50, it was a total steal and might be incorporated into my every day make-up routine soon!

Tilapia and nectarines-My current food loves! It is totally random too. There is this restaurant in Homewood, Al called Pinches and they make this delicious fish sandwich, so I figured I could make it myself! Breaded some fresh tilapia fillets, pan seared in some canola oil, put on a piece of toasted bread and viola…there it is! I also am on a nectarine kick, which I bought because they looked SO pretty at Publix.

Lilly Pulitzer accessories-I always love Lilly but I am OBSESSED with my new phone case! I don’t love prints on my phone, because sometimes I fear it looks unprofessional, but once I put my new case on I didn’t even care! And sure enough, everyone thinks it’s totally cute. It has personality and I just love it! Thanks to the Pink Door in Memphis, TX for that one!

So there you have it everyone, my Friday Favorites for this week! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend, and I’ll definitely be back tomorrow!

Amazon babes need clothes too!

Happy Sundayyyy 🙂 Does anyone else think Sunday nights are kind of boring without the Amazing Race on? Good thing there was a Harry Potter marathon haha.

Lets see, today i went shopping! So Capri pants are totally in style. And I love them. BUT when you’re just wearing pants that are too short for you, that’s a high-water, not a Capri. And that’s just not cute. Well, welcome to my life. I’m almost 6’1 and have been handling the high-water situation for as long as I can remember.

With the new job, I have been forced to trade in my Nike shorts and t-shirt regime for suits and button ups.

20110522-110242.jpg

But the one thing I can’t handle, is short work pants. it’s not professional, it’s not cute and it’s totally my pet peeve. And for an Amazon like me (Amazon sounds better than giant…) it’s a simple pleasure when you can find awesome pants. And today at New York and Co., my little tall-minded dreams came true! I bought pants this afternoon that might even be too long! They’re fabulous, I’m wearing them tomorrow and will of course take pics of how fabulously long they are! They were also on sale, score!

Well, that was the highlight of my weekend! Other than my sweet clothing find, we had a going away party for a girlfriend from England, I ran the long trail in the heat both days, laid out at the pool, and cleaned/did laundry.

20110522-110940.jpg
My party outfit, it was American themed. What’s more American than Lilly Pulitzer??

What a terrific weekend, I’m all smiles 🙂 Week 2 at the new job tomorrow, and and so far so fabulous!

Back in Action!

Whew it has been a LONG LONG time. My apologies, I have really gotten caught up in life and have not been posting at all! Let’s recap the last few weeks…

I finished my first year of law school! And then we popped serious bottles and celebrated hard! I am so happy to year is over, we survived and are on summer break for a while. 2L and 3L are up next, then I graduate and am the future of the legal profession. Scary, huh?

I went to Memphis. There was a wedding the weekend after finals were over, so I drove up. My mom came in from Texas and we saw a ton of her old friends from high school and their kids. The wedding was fabulous and spending time with everyone was so fun. Then Mom and I broke loose to do some shopping (what else do we do better?!) There was a Lilly Pullitzer boutique that I had to visit while I was there, and we had some fun for a day! A good friend there just got engaged, and I will be back soon to visit since the 3.5 hour drive was so easy!

I signed up for a triathlon! On Memorial Day I will be doing the JVCC triathlon here in Birmingham and am very stoked. I don’t have a bike here, but my good friend Hunter has one that I am borrowing. I will miss my tri buddy Fit Chick Britt, but am still excited to be doing a race. I tend to slack on my fitness sometimes when I get busy with other things, but having a race ahead gives me goals to stay focused on.

20110520-020118.jpg

I started my new job. It is awesome! I love working at Cory Watson Crowder Degaris, P.C., here in Birmingham, Alabama. We are a plaintiff’s law firm and I truly enjoy my work. I have a nice office, great computer, awesome people around me, and even work with another friends from Cumberland! I am playing on the firm softball team and love it. We even won our first game against a rival firm on Wednesday, and hope to kick butt for the rest of the season.

Ok now that you’re caught up, I will be back to posting daily! I have to get back in the routine, but it can be done! I hope everyone has been fabulous during my “sabbatical” and is having a great summer so far!

Counting it down…

Needless to say, I have NOT been diligent in my blooging for the past 3 weeks. That is completely due to law school finals being in full swing, and spending every waking moment studying or reviewing or taking an exam. Its just not really exciting to write about the same thing day in and day out.

In 24 hours, I will be done with 1L. Whew.

Heres a recap for you of the last few weeks:

I took 3 finals, and have one more tommorrow. After that, I’m done. Roll out the red carpet, popl the champagne bottles, were not 1Ls anymore baby and its summertime!

I got a cold. Who does that during finals? Oh thats right, everyone. Because this ONE girl came to the library sick and got the entire basement crew infected. I know who you are, and youre at the top of my list. After two full bottles of Theraflu in 3 days, I was so medicated I didnt know top from bottom.

I drank way too much diet coke. Dear god after finals I am taking a break from the DC and DDP for at LEAST a week.

I got a job. I will be working at a plaintiff’s firm here in Birmingham for the whole summer and am very excited about it.

My mom came to town. She was in my apartment for less than 10 munites before asking for a bottle of Clorox. The bathroom looks great, thanks Ma.

I need a haircut. For the love of all things holy I need to have my hair done. Its getting long (relative here) and looks horrible. ITs bordering on mullet. and NO, I will not post photos to embarass myself in this current fragile state.

Ok so thats it. My life really isnt that exciting right now but starting tomorrow, its a new leaf! This weekend, I am headed to the hair salon and the Memphis for a wedding with my mother to have some fun! But for now, I will spend the next 24 hours nailing Civ Pro so I can celebrate accordingly! Hope every one has had a fabbbbbulous few days 🙂

The Day the Lights Went out in Alabama

April 27th, 2011 is a day that will live in infamy for Alabama.

Yesterday morning, we were woken up to tornado sirens at 5:19am. Most of the city immediately lost power and the heavy rains commenced. After a few hours, the weather returned to normal and we went on with our days.

Looming over our heads was the weather service’s warning that “the worst is yet to come.”

The worst was an understatement of what was to come. Come 3:30pm, warnings spread across the state of massive tornadoes and impending damage. Birmingham itself didn’t see bad weather until around 5:30pm. By then, I had made it home to an apartment complex with no power and slews of worried neighbors. We battened down the hatches and weathered out the storm in a first floor apartment. Fortunately, the storm skirted south Birmingham and we did not take a direct hit.

Others were not so fortunate. Many cities in Alabama were beyond devastated, some even leveled. Entire cities were destroyed. The death count is over 200, with countless others still missing. Thousands are displaced and stranded without homes to return to.

Without power, it took a while for most of us to realize the gravity of the situation. I myself didn’t realize it until I met a fellow Samford student at WalMart while I was purchasing candles to rerun to my apartment. While I laughed about how unprepared I was by not having a single candle in my house, he answered in return that he went home tonight and no longer had a house. It broke my heart to hear someone have their life ruined like that, and it was then that I realized just how bad this round of storms was.

I was so fortunate to not suffer any serious damage, and am so appreciative of everyone that checked in on me to ensure my safety. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and concern! I spent a good portion of the night at the law school where there was power, and only returned to my apartment to sleep for a while. Sometime today, the power here fortunately did come back on.

But the sun came in in Alabama today, and it will be out again tomorrow. The state will rebuild, and the people will help each other out. It is tragic events like this that show the good in humanity and brings communities together. If you were fortunate enough to survive the storm, make sure you give to others an help those who were not as fortunate.

Pray for Alabama…lord knows it is needed right now.

Adult Truths

Hello from the library friends! I am hunkered down here until we get sent home to hunker down for the impending tornadoes this afternoon. If they don’t send us home in time, we will be forced into the stairwells…yipee. Please GOD let tornado season in Alabama end soon.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, my dad sent me the absolutel funniest email I have ever read today. So I want to share it with you (in liue of my envigorating stories of Evidence studying) and hope that you get a good laugh too!! Enjoy…

ADULT TRUTHS:

1. I think part of a best friend’s job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn’t want to nap when I was younger.

 4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I’m pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren’t going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don’t want to have to restart my collection…again.

13. I’m always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. I keep some people’s phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.

17. I wish Google Maps had an “Avoid Ghetto” routing option.

18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

19. How many times is it appropriate to say “What?” before you just nod and smile because you still didn’t hear or understand a word they said?

20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

22. Sometimes I’ll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

23. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey – but I’d bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.

24. The first testicular guard, the “Cup,” was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.

Anything else you would add to that list?  I loved it!
